Take the Tiller with KPYC’s Sailing School

Join the Gundalow Company and Kittery Point Yacht Club’s Sailing School for a special 4- day long summer camp program. During this program, campers will spend the mornings exploring Creek Farm or sailing aboard the Gundalow. Then, in the afternoon, they will be transported via motorboat to a large float in the Portsmouth back channel to learn the ins and outs of sailing. KPYC’s program is designed for sailors ages eight and older who are ready to learn and practice fundamental sailing skills while gaining greater confidence skippering 420s and Optimists. Campers will be taught in the sailing school boats with one to three campers per boat depending on skill level. The goal is to teach each sailor how to confidently control the tiller and sail simultaneously in order to handle the boats independently. Campers will learn sailing nomenclature, knot tying, boat rigging, boat handling, wind direction, water safety and boat maintenance.
