Portland, Maine – Sailing Ships Maine announces the appointment of Matt Glenn as Captain of SSV Harvey Gamage for the duration of an eight-week voyage hosting Proctor Academy’s Winter Ocean Classroom Program. Captain Matt Glenn first learned to sail through free programs for Boston youth on the Charles River and Boston Harbor. As we approach the end of the year I wanted to provide you with a quick update on our sailing season and to ask for your help with meeting our annual appeal goal. 2021 turned out to be a banner year for our sailing and camp programs! We had one of our best seasons of public sails with 5,950 passengers nearly eclipsing our all-time record from 2017 of 6,193 passengers. Gundalow Company offers a variety of camp experiences to get kids on and around the water. These programs are run aboard the gundalow Piscataqua, at our land base at Creek Farm owned by the Society for the Protection of NH Forest, and at our other partner organizations. We offer aftercare from 3:00-5:00 during our full day programs. We also have camp partnership weeks with local organizations and “discovery” or themed weeks- check them out! Registration opens for members February 8th and to the public on February 15th.
