It is with a heavy heart that I send along the news that CAPT Howard Crosby, USN (Ret) passed away on 16 April. Howard and his wife Phylis were great supporters of ours and his spirit will live on in our mission. I only had the great pleasure of meeting him on several occasions when I first arrived and we quickly found the common ground of four years spent at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Portland, Maine – Sailing Ships Maine announces the appointment of Matt Glenn as Captain of SSV Harvey Gamage for the duration of an eight-week voyage hosting Proctor Academy’s Winter Ocean Classroom Program. Captain Matt Glenn first learned to sail through free programs for Boston youth on the Charles River and Boston Harbor. He was introduced to tall ships by a college history program taught at sea aboard the square-rigged ship, HMS Rose. Season’s greetings and a big huzzah to everyone! As we approach the end of the year I wanted to provide you with a quick update on our sailing season and to ask for your help with meeting our annual appeal goal. 2021 turned out to be a banner year for our sailing and camp programs! We had one of our best seasons of public sails with 5,950 passengers nearly eclipsing our all-time record from 2017 of 6,193 passengers. We set organizational records for the number of private charters (73), and number of River Rats camp registrations (327)! These were great […]
