Merrimack River Homeschool Sail
and Lowell’s Boat Shop Tour
Tuesday Sept 12 – 12:30-4:00pm
Our program will start with an hour tour of Lowell’s Boat Shop in Amesbury, MA followed by a 2.5 hour sail aboard the Gundalow on the Merrimack River. While on the Gundalow, participants will set the sail, steer the vessel, and participate in a variety of learn stations including a plankton tow, navigation and knot tying activity. This multidisciplinary program explores both the maritime heritage and the marine environment of the river, and looks at how humans have impacted the river throughout time.

Young Sailor’s Homeschool Program
Sept 27 12:30-2:30pm
Designed for younger homeschoolers, this 2-hour program on the Gundalow focuses on hands-on learning about the marine environment and our maritime heritage. Students will take a tour of the boat, raise the sail, steer the boat, tow for plankton, tie knots, sing some chanteys and use our 3D watershed model to explore the human impact on the watershed. This sail starts and ends at our dock in Prescott Park in Portsmouth.

Gundalow Sail in Great Bay
Wednesday October 4 from 12:00-3:00pm
Our program will start with shoreside activities at Adams Point in Durham, NH followed by a 2 hour sail aboard the Gundalow on Great Bay. While on the Gundalow, participants will set the sail, steer the vessel, and participate in a variety of learn stations including a plankton tow, an otter trawl, and a hands on activity with our 3D watershed model.

Gundalow Homeschool Program: Scientists at the Shoreline
Join us for a 5 week long homeschool science course.
The Gundalow Company delivers place-based, inquiry driven education programs that take students outside to experience science and exploration first hand. Place-based education focuses on learning about science that is occurring right here in our own back yards. This course includes 4 weeks of 1 hour outdoor classes along the waterfront of Portsmouth NH culminating in a 2.5 hour sailing and science exploration that starts in Portsmouth and ends in Dover. We will trace the Piscataqua and Cocheco rivers from the Harbor right up the mills in Dover. Throughout the course we will participate in hands-on science and study using a variety of science equipment to study water quality, marine organisms, etc. Our homeschool programs fill fast, so register today.
