The Gundalow Company is excited to be taking action to protect the marine environment of the Piscataqua Region by becoming involved in a citizen science monitoring project . This project is run through the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management and monitors 23 invasive species at over 38 sites from Rhode Island to Maine. With no current monitoring in NH, the Gundalow crew and volunteers will be establishing 3 sites along the Piscataqua River under the guidance of Jeremy Miller from the Wells Reserve.
Through this project, we’re hoping to provide valuable data about invasive species in our waters, have some fun looking at the marine environment, and help share the story of invasive species through our many education programs including our school field trips and camps.
How do you become involved in this project? Attend the training next training, sign up to help with monthly monitoring at one of the sites from May-Oct, and help spread the word to others about the importance of monitoring and managing marine invasive species! We’re hoping to have a team of people to monitor each site so you don’t need to commit to volunteers every month. Please email: volcoordinator@gundalow.org to sign up for the training or to learn more about the project.
