Update from Rich Clycorne, Sept 2021:
Bruce was a generous man who provided funding for schools in the Concord-Hopkinton-Henniker-Weare areas of the state to participate in our Celebrating our Rivers school programs; the funding also included the transportation costs for the schools to and from Portsmouth.
Bruce, and his son Bill, visited Portsmouth back in 2011 and were given a tour of the Piscataqua by Molly Bolster (Director Emeritus) as the vessel was being built on the grounds of Strawbery Banke. Bruce was so impressed with the project and the plans to use the boat as a floating classroom that he began to routinely donate funds to our organization primarily for our school programs.
Bruce also recently provided the funding for the purchase of the hearing assistance system that will be used onboard starting in the next few weeks. Bruce had a passion for our mission and was always keenly interested in how we were doing.
I corresponded with him frequently during the pandemic and I was able to visit him back in May in Henniker to demonstrate the hearing assistance system he was purchasing to him and his assistant. He was thrilled that more people were going to be able to hear our educator-deckhands while sailing with us on the river.
Bruce was a remarkable man, he lived a full life, served his country during WWII, and served his communities faithfully. His loss will be deeply felt. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/concordmonitor/name/richard-elliott-obituary?pid=199928348
