Date: Monday, June 1, 2020 – Monday, June 8, 2020
**New programs and events will be added as plans are finalized.**
World Ocean Day is an international celebration and collaboration for a healthier future for our Ocean. On June 8, 2020 people from across the globe will unite to raise awareness of the critical role the ocean plays for all life on Earth and the dire need to protect it. We are proud to have teamed up with our partners Seacoast Science Center, Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation, Bow Seat, and League of Conservation Voters for a week long celebration this year. Together, we can make a difference!
The World Ocean
Our health and our ocean’s health are connected. Over half of the oxygen we breathe is produced in the ocean, and the ocean is the heart of our planet, circulating heat and water and regulating our climate. Vastly biodiverse, scientists estimate that 91% of ocean species have yet to be classified. The ocean provides food, creates millions of jobs, is a source for medicines, and provides inspiration, respite and recreation. It is up to us to preserve and protect it for future generations.
